Buying a Home Just Got Clearer ... Understanding the New Buyer Agreement & How it Helps

If you’re thinking about buying a home, here’s an important update from the

National Association of REALTORS® (NAR):

Written Buyer Agreement

Before touring homes, every buyer working with a REALTOR® will now be asked to sign a Written Buyer Agreement.
It’s a simple, clear document that explains:
- What your REALTOR® will do for you
- How they’ll be compensated (negotiable!)
- The terms of your working relationship

Why It Matters

No surprises or confusion about responsibilities or payments
Gives you confidence and clarity in the process
Helps you focus on finding your home

Flexible & Negotiable

You can adjust the length, services, and compensation to fit your needs
You’ll only sign once you’ve chosen a REALTOR® and are ready to start touring homes

Cost

Signing the agreement doesn’t necessarily mean paying out of pocket
Commission is often covered by the seller or are negotiable
